During my college days I was an avid cricket lover and I remember the intense clashes between India and Australia. In those days Australia was always a hurdle which Indians had to cross to get their hands on any tournament cup, especially the world cup.
Among all the Australian players I admired Andrew Symonds a lot as he was an excellent all rounder who had the capability to tilt the entire innings in Australia’s favor. Everytime he comes to bat or picks up the ball I would start praying to god to help the Indian players to face him.
He was a player whom I dreaded as an Indian cricket fan but admired as a cricket fan.
Fast forward to 2022, when I read about Andrew Symonds in the news paper, the cricket fan in me woke up and instead of rejoicing, he went into mourning. Andrew Symonds, the legend that the cricket fan in me loved, was no more. He had passed away in a fatal car crash.
I remember the last TV interview of him in which he was very excited about his team’s (Deccan Chargers) victory in the 2009 IPL. He had a big smile and was super happy to have won the cup after his team’s debacle in the previous year. This is the face of Andrew Symonds that I am going to remember forever.
